When the snow falls.

Flanders - Belgium

Lately in Belgium we had snow and quite a bit of it. On my day of birth there was snow too (I was born in Lourdes, of all places) and I have always loved it. As a child I would dream of snow days so school would not happen. For many years I skied and was always wishing for a long white winter so I could slide down the hills of my beloved Pyrenees.

Today, sitting at my drawing table, facing the window, I have been really inspired by the serene feeling that snow brought along. Have you noticed on how it makes everything so much more silent? It’s funny, when I started sketching I was going for a totally different idea (I had a new series of ‘jour de fête’ in mind) but somehow the pristine fields ahead of me felt like a call.

I sketched a few ideas and I cannot wait to give it a try on the canvas. I will work with oil and already I sense the excitement that I get when I want to capture something that feels good for the soul.
