ABOUT

Johanna Van Daalen is a french artist based in Belgium and the Carpathians in Romania. Trained as a furniture designer in the UK, Johanna worked as a product designer and a florist. She now focuses on painting and her visual art practice.

Her native Pyrenees, the Carpathian mountains, humble objects, everyday life encounters, potagers and gardens, are all source of inspiration for her work. Johanna celebrates beauty in its simplest form, whether drowned from a moment, a landscape, a plant or even a piece of cloth. She works colours by layers and uses their transparency qualities to create nuances and textures. She also uses repetition of gesture to plunge herself into a meditative state in order to reach the ‘unreal’ of very down to earth subjects.
